Anthony Nunan As a residential youth worker in Melbourne during the 1980s, I worked as an educator with teenage graduates from Victoria’s prison system. Through this difficult and often confronting learning environment, I gained insight and extensive practical experience with conflict management. I have been employed in a range of occupations from office work to training, rural labouring to city sales, from independent businesses through to nationally and internationally renowned companies. I have also run several small businesses of my own. My educational 'philosophy' encompasses many potential career opportunities for students. A shift to mainstream education in the 1990’s led to a broadened teaching experience in primary and secondary schools, co-ed and single sex campuses, adult education, public and private schools, in Australia and the UK. Authoring several subject specific texts for primary, secondary and VCE students, and children’s fiction has added to my wide range of interests. Six Bridges is a culmination of over 4 years of research and testing, seeking out the simplest of techniques to help teachers and businesses understand the basic principles of managing change and conflict. Since beginning work as a youth worker, and through my mainstream teaching career, I have endeavoured to remain in the role of an educator – avoiding administrative and leadership roles. Six Bridges focuses on techniques that work for anyone without drawing on authority, physical advantages, extensive experience, respect or fear. Six Bridges does not depend on a gift – it relies on consistent application of simple, fair techniques every day. It also addresses systemic problems in an organisation and offers practical solutions for gradual change. Anthony
